Government service to warn of e-crimes.

Byline: Karen Dearne

Jun 05, 2008 (The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Government will launch a public internet service on 6 June 2008. The Stay Smart Online service will help small businesses and individuals to protect their computers against intrusions by computer hackers and viruses. People can sign up for the alert service at www.staysmartonline.gov.au. The service will be in plain English, with no jargon, so ordinary computer users can understand quickly what they are being warned about. The Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy, said that many individuals do not realise how much personal information they are giving out globally on sites such as MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn.
