SA: Appeal papers served for shooting
ADELAIDE, Aug 18 AAP - Appeal papers were today served on a man who was given a suspendedjail sentence for shooting an Adelaide newspaper delivery man in the face.
The papers, which outline the grounds of the appeal, were today handed to Paul HabibNemer, 21, after being lodged with the South Australian Supreme Court last week.
Nemer shot delivery man Geoffrey Williams in the face during Williams' early morninground in 2001.
Mr Williams lost an eye as a result of the shooting, which occurred after female friendsof Nemer telephoned him and claimed they were being stalked.
Nemer was initially charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent to cause grievousbodily harm and endangering life.
After plea bargaining, all but the endangered life charge were withdrawn.
Nemer pleaded guilty to that charge and last month was given a suspended jail termof three years and three months and ordered into a $100 three-year good behaviour bond.
The government directed state Director of Public Prosecutions Paul Rofe to appeal the sentence.
The hearing was expected to be heard in the Court of Criminal Appeal next month.
